July 2008 Japan Trip, Day 1

23-Jul-08
My favorite place in Tokyo is the Hachiko exit around Shibuya and its surroundings, and it was the first place my friends and I visited once we arrived in Japan and dropped off our things at the hotel. It was a hot muggy afternoon but it was still as crowded as ever, especially the famous scramble crossing: [...]

A musical week

03-Apr-08

Just today I got the chance to see the violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter play the three Brahms violin sonatas. Her playing (as well as her accompanist Lamber Orkis') was impeccable, although I found only the third sonata to be really interesting. She also came out to play four (!) encore pieces, also by Brahms. After dazzling performances of [...]

A change of employment

01-Jun-07

After almost three years, today was my last day at Amazon. I’ll be taking some time off and then I will start work at Google near the end of this month.
Woo!

Urgh poop

14-Nov-05

God, Sunday was a disgusting day. I clogged the toilet that morning and spent all day vainly trying to unclog it. I had to bail out the toilet into the bathtub to avoid getting shit-water all over my floor. I finally succeeded yesterday evening, but only after scratching up the toilet bowl […]

So my operation is finally finished…

03-Nov-05

I’m sitting here with what looks like a while plate attached to the side of my head by a white strap above my eyes. I’m a little disoriented but not dizzy, as if I had a few beers. In fact, I’m having to go back and correct more typos than usual in writing […]

Blargh…

29-Oct-05

Only a few more days until my ear surgery. I’m not looking forward to it, although talking with the nurse at my pre-op did ease my mind a bit. Apparently I’ll be getting a patch by my ear that delivers medicine to prevent the dizziness and nausea after the surgery. I hope […]

Gah…

15-Oct-05

Don’t you hate it when you’ve been working on a side project and then you find out it’s already been done? And better? I was working on a C++ library for simulating quantum computation and then I ran into this page. And the annoying thing is that I’ve started this side project […]

Me and stop signs

08-Oct-05

Man, I have the worst luck with law enforcement. There was a parade or something in the international district today so there was cops all over manning the closed streets. I was coming back from Robothon when I spotted a cop manning an intersection by my house. I was definitely trying to […]

Urgh crunch time at work

05-Oct-05

A deadline’s approaching for work and so my teammates and I are scrambling to finish up our code. It’ll all be over by this Friday but until then it’s high-stress all day. At least I haven’t had to pull any all-nighters like in college…

Summer is drawing to a close…

02-Oct-05

I was driving home yesterday when it started hailing. Hailing! This does not bode well for October. :(
