Bach

Recently, I decided to start listening to some Back on a whim. I heard good things about Gould so I listened to his Goldberg Variations, both his “young” and “old” versions. Then I listened to his rendition of the Well-Tempered Clavier. I must say I’m developing a taste for Bach. I actually picked up a copy of the WTC at Borders and tried to sight-read a few of them. The preludes are pretty easy but the fugues are definitely non-trivial. And it’s been so long since I did anything non-Romantic seriously that I had a hard time mustering the precision and attention to detail necessary to play Bach non-sloppily.

I guess it’s somewhat of a relief not to have to deal with monumentally difficult Romantic pieces anymore. Besides, Bach is good for exercising basic finger dexterity, which I definitely more of. We’ll see how my foray into the WTC goes…
